Loveland’s Restore Health Center Isn’t Your Typical Doctor’s Office… And We’re Proud of It!

Loveland’s Restore Health Center

At Loveland’s Restore Health Center, we are dedicated to a new model of healthcare that isn’t like a typical doctor’s office. We focus on achieving overall health, rather than only trying to treat your symptoms alone. Our strategy is to look at the body’s systems and proactively focus on disease prevention and treating symptoms that lead to disease.

Traditional medicine and doctors often focus on disease and how to turn symptoms off. You can go to a traditional doctor for acute and urgent medical conditions like broken bones or heart attacks. This standard model of healthcare usually includes diagnosing disease and matching the disease with a corresponding drug. Functional Medicine, on the other hand, addresses the underlying causes of chronic symptoms. Your Northern Colorado Restore Health Center Clinic focuses on getting to the bottom of symptoms and disease prevention to help you live a full and healthy life.

As Functional Medicine doctors, we approach health challenges in a systematic manner. First, we go through your medical history. Then we take a look at your lifestyle and how it could be affecting your overall health. When you visit Loveland Restore Health Center, you will benefit from our in-depth laboratory evaluations, therapies, and services that are all designed to minimize medications and help your body restore itself. We offer a range of services, from traditional medical interventions to innovative methods such as targeted nutritional supplementation with intravenous nutrients (IV therapy),  bioidentical hormone restoration, and more.

At Restore Health Center, we provide services for healing the mind and body as a whole. We have treatments tailored specifically to men and women, total body services, and treatments for brain disorders, chronic stress, adrenal issues, and more. Your Northern Colorado Restore Health Center is here to help you make simple changes to your lifestyle to allow you to live your life to the fullest. Searching for an Autoimmune Doctor in Fort Collins? Look No Further Than Restore Health Center!

Autoimmune doctor in fort collins

Finding the right autoimmune doctor in Fort Collins can be a daunting task. If you’ve been searching for an autoimmune doctor who will listen and help you get to the bottom of your condition, look no further than Restore Health Center! We like to focus on disease prevention AND find the underlying causes of what could be triggering your autoimmune responses. We want to work with you to help bring your body to optimal function and address the things that are causing your symptoms.

What Is Autoimmune Disease?

Autoimmune diseases arise when the body attacks its own cells because it fails to differentiate  foreign cells and your body’s own healthy cells. When your body mistakes these as foreign, it releases autoantibodies that attack healthy cells. A specific organ can be the target of the attack, such as the thyroid gland (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves’ disease), the joints (rheumatoid arthritis), or the intestines (celiac disease). In some cases, the body will attack the joints, lungs, blood cells, kidneys, or nerves all at once, which leads to lupus. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease are among the most common autoimmune diseases. More than 50 million Americans suffer from autoimmune disease, and 75% of those are women. Autoimmune diseases can also run in families, but the whole family does not usually get the same condition. They are among the most prevalent diseases in the United States. If you are struggling with an autoimmune disease, Restore Health Center, your Northern Colorado autoimmune doctor, can help.

What Can Trigger an Autoimmune Disease?

There is not always one single trigger for autoimmune diseases. Usually, it’s a combination of triggers. The root cause of all autoimmune conditions is systemic inflammation in your body. This happens when your body is fighting a toxin, infection, allergen, or stress response. It redirects the hostile attack onto your brain, joints, thyroid, gut, skin, or your whole body. Your Fort Collins autoimmune doctor at Restore Health Center will help you discover which sources are causing the inflammation. Some common sources of inflammation include:

  • Chronic stress
  • Environmental toxin exposure
  • Parasite/viral/bacterial/ infections
  • Poor gut health
  • Imbalances in hormones
  • Food allergies, like gluten
  • Vitamin D deficiency
  • Poor blood sugar regulation

At Restore Health Center, we like to take a multifaceted approach to treating your autoimmune disease. We will create an individualized plan that will both reduce symptoms and optimize the effectiveness of various medical treatments to get to the root cause of your disease, beyond the symptoms.

The first step is removing any autoimmune triggers, like environmental toxins, or inflammatory foods, like gluten. Then we will help you restore healthy gut function through diet, increased fiber intake, daily probiotic supplementation, enzyme therapy, and nutrients. Fort Collins Female Wellness and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Fort Collins Female Wellness

The fall colors are swirling around, and the weather is getting chilly, making October one of our favorite months of the year. This month is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And as your Fort Collins Functional Medicine providers specializing in female wellness, we are reminded of the importance of preventing, diagnosing and supporting women battling this disease.

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, no matter your race or ethnicity? This is why Breast Cancer Awareness Month is so important. It’s an annual international health campaign that started in 1985 and is organized by major breast cancer charities. It takes place every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to people affected by breast cancer. It’s important to note that a significant aspect of breast cancer awareness and prevention hinges on regular visits to a physician that focuses on female wellness.

At Restore Health, we’re proud to offer a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner to our lineup of Functional Medicine physicians. Jennifer Jones, FNP – C, joined our practice this year, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the services and expertise she provides for our patients.

As a certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Jennifer has practiced in Colorado since 1993, focusing her work on obstetrics and gynecology. She brings to Restore Health a wealth of experience and a passion for women’s health. Her areas of interest include: menopause, bladder concerns, birth control, and health optimization over the course of a woman’s life. She and her husband Matt and four furry friends live in Windsor. She also has two adult children in Colorado. Jennifer’s practice at Restore Health focuses on well-woman exams and office-based gynecology in the context of a Functional Medicine model.

Not quite sure what a Functional Medicine model means? Let us elaborate. At Restore Health, we are dedicated to a new model of health care that is focused on achieving optimal health rather than treating disease. We approach health challenges in a systematic manner, addressing underlying issues instead of just chasing symptoms with medications. We are committed to helping you achieve your loftiest health goals through our in-depth laboratory evaluations and cutting-edge therapies – all designed to minimize medications and help your body restore itself. This remains true within the context of Fort Collins female wellness, as well.

The Functional health practitioners at Restore Health, including Jennifer, avail themselves to the best that medicine has to offer, ranging from traditional medical interventions to innovative modalities, such as bio-identical hormone restoration (including sex hormones, thyroid, adrenals and more), targeted nutritional supplementation (including intravenous nutrients), detoxification, oxidative therapies, and overall female wellness. However, when it comes to your health, our success depends on your active participation. Among our innovative offerings related to Breast Cancer we offer the following:

  1. Hormone and health optimization to decrease risk.
  2. Cost-effective genetic screening.
  3. Nutritional assessments and optimization to help decrease DNA damage.
  4. Early diagnosis using tools such as 3-D mammography with lower radiation and compression, breast MRIs, and non-traditional imaging such as Thermography.

Factors That Affect Thyroid Function: An Overview With the Top Functional Medicine Specialist Fort Collins Has to Offer

Thyroid Specialist Fort Collins

Have you ever noticed that you’re frequently tired, have cold hands, or have excess body fat? If so, you may be suffering from a thyroid disorder. If this is the case, then you’ll want to visit the top functional medicine specialist Fort Collins has to offer.  We suggest that you consider getting a functional medicine approach to a thyroid evaluation. And while these are only a few of the symptoms associated with thyroid disorder, they are some of the more common symptoms.

According to the American Thyroid Association, more than 12 percent of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetime. An estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease, and one woman in eight will develop a thyroid disorder during her lifetime. Those statistics are fairly staggering.

Not even sure what or where your thyroid is? That’s okay. It’s our job to keep you informed on such things. The thyroid gland is located in the middle of the lower neck and is relatively small but crucial to a healthy and thriving body.

The thyroid is a hormone-producing gland that regulates the body’s metabolism. Thyroid hormones convert oxygen and calories into energy. This process is known as metabolism. Every cell in the body depends upon thyroid hormones for their metabolism. Essentially, hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Hyperthyroidism, another type of thyroid disease, is a condition causing the gland to produce too much thyroid hormone. So basically, when dysfunction occurs, people either produce too much thyroid hormone (hyperthyroid) or too little (hypothyroid). Additional symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, weight gain, constipation, fuzzy thinking, low blood pressure, fluid retention, depression, body pain, slow reflexes, and much more. Additional symptoms of hyperthyroidism tend to reflect the rapid metabolism that results from an oversupply of thyroid hormone. Common symptoms include anxiety, insomnia, rapid weight loss, diarrhea, high heart rate, high blood pressure, eye sensitivity/bulging and vision disturbances, and many other concerns.

Oftentimes, people who experience these symptoms will go to the doctor only to be told that their thyroid is normal, but then continue feeling lousy and completely at a loss for what to do next. This is why you may need further investigation than what is typically performed. Restore Health Center, your Functional Medicine Colorado provider, offers additional testing that can help you pinpoint exactly what thyroid complications you may be suffering from.

What sets us apart from other doctors or thyroid specialists in the area is our thyroid panels? The classic thyroid panel ordered by most physicians consists of only two tests: Total T4 and TSH. At Restore Health Center, we believe that these two tests alone do not give adequate insight into your current level of thyroid function. We prefer a more comprehensive panel, which includes: TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, anti-Thyrioglobulin and anti-TPO. Many practitioners are simply not familiar with those parameters and will not test for them. Here are the labs that we offer:

  • Free Thyroxine (T4) – Evaluates the amount of unbound T4 available to the cells and tissues for use; this is distinct from total T4 which includes both bound (unavailable) and unbound hormone.
  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) – This is secreted by the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid to make primarily T4.
  • Free Tri-iodothyronine (T3) – Measures the amount of T3 (the active form of the hormone) available to the cells and tissues.
  • Anti-thyroperoxidase (Anti-TPO) Measures the levels of antibodies against this thyroid enzyme
  • Anti-Thyroglobulin (Anti-TG) Measures the levels of antibodies against this thyroid protein
  • Reverse T3 – Reverse T3 is an inactive form of thyroid that locks energy out of the cells. If there is too much Reverse T3, it doesn’t matter if the rest of the thyroid panel appears to be normal: the patient will be suffering from a form of hypothyroid. In cases of chronic stress (acute illness, trauma, infection, physical stress) and starvation (yo-yo dieting) too much T4 is converted to Reverse T3.

Additionally, check out this graphic below via the Institute for Functional Medicine. It explains the different factors that affect thyroid function including which vitamins and nutrients contribute to the proper production of thyroid hormones, increase the conversion of T4 to T3, and improve cellular sensitivity to thyroid hormones.
